Ahoy! Welcome new and existing members to our Google Group for Gowanus Dredgers Volunteers! Thank you for coming to one of our orientations, expressing interest at an event or however you got here! We hope this is a place where everyone feels welcome to throw out their crazy idea for an event and can gather folks to help make it all happen.

Events that can always use an extra hand or two:

Music Programming- From our semi-regular Ukulele Cabarets, to Unheard-of//Ensemble performances at 19th st, extra hands are always needed for setting up and breaking down the events as well as manning the tables- donation station for drinks and snacks, tee-shirt and various Dredgers merch table.

Walk-Up Paddles- Come help get boats and people in and out of the water, provide on-water support if needed and answer questions about the canal. Helpful if you can lift a canoe, but we need greeters and waiver-signers too, all are welcome.

Science Programing- We recently acquired a water testing device from Duros and are working on creating a long-term study to track levels of things like dissolved oxygen. This is a pretty big undertaking and we can use help across many aspects. (Scheduled testing, sharing information, data visualization etc.)

Bunker Beautification & Maintenance- Our 19th St. location has been getting nicer, with the addition of storage, tables, planter areas, and more. Volunteers can help build out the space — level the interior floor, build storage, or otherwise help make it a better boat storage.

Whatever you're dreaming of!

Are you really good at finding and writing grants? Do you love teaching people how to paddle? Maybe you're a social media whiz and have some great ideas about how we can expand our presence? Or you're good at PR and want to help us write up press releases to get more people out to the 19th st. site? Maybe you're really good at balancing rocks and can help landscape our riprap! We're all volunteers here and can't wait to see what you can add into the mix.
