Danny the Champion of the World by Dahl is a very popular children's novel written by Roald Dahl that remains popular today. In this children's book, Danny is born with inherited powers and abilities that make him an incredible fighter, but also because of his wild nature and disregard for society. At a young age, he is trained by his foster father, Chef de Bonjour, in the art of fencing but soon proves to be the best fencer ever known, even more so than his mentor. He meets an orphan named Pip and the two become friends.

Danny is so good at many things from fencing to driving that he becomes a local hero, gaining the respect of his townspeople as well as being sought after by the authorities. One of the main characters in the story is Pip, who has a strange psionic power and ability to control other people's minds. At first, Danny treats Pip like any other boy his age, but when a terrible crime befalls the town, Danny allows Pip to live with him. However, Danny soon discovers that he can also use his powers to hurt those who abuse others, much to the dismay of his foster father. As he begins to learn more about his powers and how to control them, Danny realizes that he must fight the evil that would corrupt the world if he was to ever become a real man, using his mind against the forces that would use him as a weapon.

The Champion of the World by Dahl is not only a great children's book, but also contains some very adult themes as well. Throughout the book, we are repeatedly told by Danny how lucky he is to have inherited his father's talents and be able to do what he does best. Throughout the book, he demonstrates the abilities of his powerful mind by unleashing on unsuspecting strangers his knowledge of martial arts, including how to put their minds to sleep. Lastly, he eventually uses his newfound skills to protect his own town from a group of vampires who were planning on taking over the world.
