The Book with No Pictures by acclaimed comedian B.J. Novak is a quick and enjoyable read with excellent punch lines. A New York Times best seller, this unique and hugely entertaining read-aloud by acclaimed comedy star B.J. Novak takes no prisoners, poking fun at everything from weight loss diet plans to the Big Bird/Foo Dog cartoon. With several hilarious comic sequences, The Book with No Pictures keeps its viewers entertained throughout the length of the book, including several interludes between different characters that serve to highlight the wacky humor cropping up throughout.

As an example, the opening scene features an unsuspecting Foo Dog sitting in a park with his owner waiting for him. A baby begins crying nearby and Foo Dog jumps forward to protect his master. The owner quickly realizes that the crying baby is not a baby at all, but a very young girl. In the next scene, Foo Dog's owner has brought him to his hotel room, which happens to be located next to an airplane hangar. The owner promptly sets out to deliver his beloved Foo to the baby's destination, but Foo gets lost in the airport and ends up crash-landing near the runway.
Thankfully, though, another passenger manages to rescue Foo, and they end up sharing a ride together as the girl and boy run away. The subsequent scenes highlight several hilarious memories that occur between Foo and the boy, as they bond over their resemblance to the cherished furry animal. The book ends with a series of adventures that take Foo's place in the adult universe, where he becomes a real dog (the title character of the book even goes by this name), goes on a treasure hunt, gets kidnapped by pirates, and ends up getting mixed up with a terrorist organization before finally ending up in the custody of his long-lost owner (a reference to the popular Disney film titled Finding Nemo). Overall, "How I Live Now" is a fantastic book without a picture to remind us that we're actually seeing the book in three dimensional form.
