Artemis: A Novel by Weir is a relatively new science fiction novel written by Andy Weir. The book is set in the late twentieth century and takes place in Artemis, the only human and first city on the Moon. It follows the story of a jazz singer and political activist Jasmine "JJ" Bashara as she becomes caught up in a dirty political conspiracy. I won't give it away, but the whole book is chock full of action and adventure as the main character tries to make her way through the intricate plot.

This book is part of a series featuring several others by Weir. These other books in the Artemis series include: Artemis Academia, Artemis Camp, and Artemis Crucible. In this series, all the characters from the first book in this series appear and they're given an interesting back-story to go along with what is happening in the book. Some of these back-stories deal with relationships that the main character has had in the past while in the present she's trying to figure out how to move forward and deal with the issues in her life. Sometimes it can be predictable, but other times it's unexpected and fun to read about.
As with most of Weir's science fiction books, this one also has great characters. There's DJ Khaled, the hoodlum who works in a spice warehouse and has a love of music, and Jira, a girl from an upper class family who's part of the secret conspiracy that's attempting to overthrow the government. Both of them are fascinating to watch and react to situations. Artemis is probably my favorite of this series, since each book takes place at a different time and space. However, if you've read any of the others in the series you'll likely be able to pick up where the story left off just fine. I definitely recommend giving Artemis: A Novel by Weir a try!
