Angels in America by Kushner is a coming of age drama about a gay Jewish man in contemporary America. It was recently produced on Broadway. The play was made by the same people who brought you The Book of a Thousand Nights and a Night, leyster's Angels, and The Lion King. Tony Kaiman takes his readers back to modern-day New York City, where heightened expectations and questioning about ones own sense of right and wrong permeate the culture.

The book begins with an account of the author's own coming of age and transition into adulthood. Though still a student at college, he comes out as a gay man, has a fling with a woman, and finally decides to move to New York City to pursue his acting career full time. Along the way he teams up with some colorful characters, meets and falls in love, and experiences everything that America offers, be it loss, success, sadness, or humiliation. In the end, Angels in America concludes with a poignant, "The good times are finally over" quote that sums up the play as a whole.
Though one can easily see the basis for an argument that the play should have been titled Angels in America, one must remember that this is only one actor's take on life and how it should be lived. As such, some may find parts of the script to be lacking in certain areas. However, if one truly sees Angels in America as a timeless play that deals with all aspects of coming of age and moving into adulthood, then Angels in America will most certainly be a winner for the ages.
