Prince Lestat and The Realm of Atlantis are an intriguing horror book by American author Anne Rice, the tenth in The Vampire Chronicles series. It's written as a third-person and first-voice narrative. It picks up shortly after the events of "New Moon" and" Sabbath," with the main characters - Prince Lestat, his queen, Elphira, and their infant son, Damon - on a cruise headed for the Caribbean. The ship docks at a safe point, and the adults (including Damon and Lestat's mother, Anwen) head for the ceremony to formally announce the birth of the newest member of the family. Things go horribly wrong as the ship is attacked by pirates, and Prince Lestat himself becomes a prisoner.

In order to rescue him, Elphira orders her sister, Alice to go through the motions of a True Love Waits. While Alice remains devoted to the cause, Elphira feels that she has done enough good for Lestat - and Damon. But when Alice falls overboard, she is saved by a group of slaves belonging to the sea captain, Nathaniel Brandel.
I'm not going to give too much away. The novel is full of vivid descriptions of the backdrop world that's been created around the main characters. It's also full of action - including some surprising romance between Alice and her half-naked slave, Taggert. However, what makes The Realm of Atlantis stand out is that Rice creates a very unique and vivid universe that really brings the reader into the story. It's also justly thrilling fiction, at least in part because of the way in which it deals with such a drastic change in perspective.
