Hi, everyone --

I'm emailing with two potential opportunities regarding tech/innovation + rural policy:

  1. There is a 2018 Farm Bill Rural Development Innovation Summit happening on March 1 in Washington, DCThe summit hopes to address some of the challenges facing rural communities' economic development prospects, given limited resources and opportunities. Specifically, the summit will employ research and human-centered design methodologies to devise policy suggestions for the Farm Bill, to be supported by a bipartisan coalition of advocates and policy leaders. We're looking for designers, user researchers, and policy experts to be a part of the day, and would love for you to join us. The event is a partnership between the New America Public Interest Technology team, the Rural Community Assistance Partnership, and the National Cooperative Business Association.
  2. Our team (New America / Public Interest Technology) is conducting a discovery sprint for the Rural Community Assistance Partnership for a duration of 4-5 weeks beginning March 12 and ending either April 6 or 13We are hiring a few people to join the sprint team, and are specifically looking for those with communications experience, policy expertise in rural issues, and data management, field research and design, among other skills. This work would be conducted mainly in Washington, D.C., but would require two week-long regional visits to rural locations. Please let me know if you're interested in joining the team -- this is a paid opportunity.

If either opportunity speaks to you, or would be a good fit for someone you know, please email me at v...@newamerica.org, and add my colleague Emma at coleman@newamerica.org.

Thank you!
Viv
