Yes it started in Cincinnati in 1999 during the flu vaccine shortage as a community wide effort to protect the community from the flu and MANY other viral infections that do not have vaccines: CMV, RSV, enterovirus, AFM (Acute Flaccid Myelitis), parainfluenza, Coxsackie and many more!  Then of course there is MRSA, Strep, C difficile, E coli and many more bacteria, as well! Our Intention has been to launch this intentional training to promote the concept of Hand Hygiene Awareness as a primary infection prevention technique that EVERYONE can do.
