CATALOGING SERVICES LIBRARIAN
Old Dominion University Library invites applications and nominations
for the position of Cataloging Services Librarian. The Cataloging
Services Librarian will bring vision and energy to managing the
operations of the Cataloging Services Unit which is responsible for
both original and copy cataloging, and catalog maintenance of
materials in all formats including government publications.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Personnel management of one librarian, five
classified staff and student assistants. Establishes the goals,
standards, policies and procedures for effectively organizing and
providing intellectual access to the library=92s collections and
information resources. Manages the unit to produce timely and high
quality cataloging. Provides a challenging and supportive work
environment. Incumbent will participate in collection development
activities and in staffing public services desk.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master=92s Degree in Library Science from an
ALA-accredited library School. Minimum of 3 years experience in a
cataloging setting including supervisory experience. Experience with
OCLC or another bibliographic utility; experience with AACR2R; USMARC
formats; LCSH; LC classification and with integrated library systems.
Excellent oral and written interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills. Demonstrated
planning, managerial and supervisory skills. Preferred: Experience
with government publications, awareness of new technologies, knowledge
of HTML, SGML, Innovative Interfaces, foreign languages.
LIBRARY: Old Dominion University, a publicly supported, urban,
research university with 600 faculty members and an enrollment of
17,400 students, is located in Norfolk, the center of Tidewater
Virginia. The Library has a staff of 26 librarians and 46 support
staff, with collections of 700,000 volumes and 6,500 current
subscriptions. A building expansion of 76,000 s.f. has just been
completed.
SALARY and BENEFITS: Minimum $ 33,000 Good benefits package.
