The incumbent will be required to work shift work during the irrigation
season, and field work includes bending, climbing, and lifting up to 50
pounds.
STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The incumbent serves as hydrologic technician for the Ephrata Field Office
Technical Services Group. Assists higher level hydraulic engineering
technicians and/or Hydraulic Engineers in the water operations and
management of the Columbia Basin Project reservoirs and water conveyance
system. Monitors the condition and performance of Project facilities
including hundreds of miles of conveyance channels, control structures
water measurement devices and reservoirs on a Project serving over 600,000
acres. Incumbent monitors and coordinates alarms and conditions for
numerous large pumping plants and seven low-head hydro electric power
plants on the Project. Responsible for collecting, preparing, and
compiling water operations data and producing a variety of internal and
external reports and documents. Data from incoming reports on hard copy
and computer will need to be analyzed, corrected, and verified for accuracy
and completeness by incumbent before compiling. Conducts field stream
measurements, collect water level measurements in a variety of channels,
wells, and lakes in a variety of weather conditions on varied terrain and
surfaces. Shift work is required during the irrigation season, and field
work includes bending, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS (KASOCS):
1. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques relating to
hydrology.
2. Knowledge and ability to conduct surface water measurements and record
computations as it relates to irrigation.
3. Knowledge and ability to compile, consolidate, analyze, retrieve and
report data in both written and computer record form.
4. Knowledge of and ability to use automatic data processing equipment and
a variety of programs such as those used in SCADA systems.
5. Ability to communicate verbally, quickly and concisely with clarity
using radios and telephones.
Department of the Interior (DOI) Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP)
procedures apply in filling this vacancy. 5 CFR 330, Career Transition
