This is a supervisory position. Employees who are initially appointed
to supervisory positions must serve a probationary period of one year.
Incumbent must be able to operate a government-owned or leased motor
vehicle. A valid state driver's license is required.

Basic Education Requirement; you MUST furnish a copy of your transcript of
college work completed. Non-submission will result in your being rated
ineligible.
Government Quarters are not available.
All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at
least GS-9 SUBSTITUTABLE EDUCATION: 3 years of progressively higher level
graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent Doctoral degree
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience which is in or directly related to the
line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the
applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to
successfully perform the duties of that position. To be creditable
specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower
grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the
organization. MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Degree: forestry; or a
related subject matter field that included a total of at least 30 semester
hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences
or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours of course work were in

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
***THIS A DRUG TESTING POSITION*** Incumbent serves as a staff specialist
in a combination first and second level unit with responsibilities for
development and review of both long and short term fire management plans on
the Colville Indian Reservation. Drafts reservation wide policy and
technical guides and standards for fire management, fire prescriptions and
fuels management. Directs the collection and review of data in order to
identify and evaluate fir suppression and presuppression needs. From these
needs, forest wide plans are formulated and implemented, including
scheduling and supervision of individual projects. Studies and analyzes
records and reports to determine tends and evaluate the effectiveness of
the primary and cooperative fir management programs. Recommends and
implements changes or other action necessary to reduce the frequency and
severity of wildfires. Plans, coordinates, and annually revises the fire
program. Directs the Fire Control Officer in the suppression and
presuppression programs. Plans and directs work and fire training for 60
permanent and temporary employees. Assists in the presentation of fire
training programs within the Bureau, the Department of the Interior, and
Department of Agriculture, under the direction of the Boise Interagency
Fire Center. Performs initial attack on high fire danger days and on call
for initial attack after normal working hours. On a daily basis fills a
functional roles as a firefighter or fire overhead during emergencies. This
is a Supervisory Position, Individual selected for this position must
complete 40 hours of supervisory training within the first six months and
an additional 40 hours of formal supervisory training within the first two
years, unless the individual has had such training. A probationary period
requirement will be imposed on any selectee who has not serves before as

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS (KASOCS):
1. Knowledge of forest wildfire management and forest timber management and
how it relates to the effects of silvicultural practices.
2. Knowledge of BIA regulations for personnel, purchasing, budgeting
contracting of equipment, services, fire trespass and etc.
3. Knowledge of a large fire organization and logistics in order to plan
mobilization and demobilization and set priorities for ordering of men
equipment, and materials during a large fire emergencies.
4. Knowledge of oral and written communicative techniques in order to
prepare contracts, fire plans, cooperative agreements, revise training
programs, write reports, correspondence, and relate to other programs,
outside groups and training classes.
