We don't know the entire context of the interview. Reporters can and do
lead players (and others) on and then not give the full text of their
questions leading up to it. If a reporter specifically asked what he
thought his chances would be in light of the two halves he didn't play, or
words to that effect, I wouldn't blame a player for replying.
