query is to seek sources to conduct field baseline inventories of
vascular plants and vertebrate species in the 13-state region of the
Midwest Region of National Park Service including: North Dakota, South
Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin,
Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. As part of the Natural Resource
Challenge, parks and subject matter experts will evaluate the adequacy of
their existing data and determine what baseline inventories (aquatic and
terrestrial vascular plants and vertebrate species) should be completed.
The 32 parks clustered into three eco-regions'. The Great Lakes
eco-region includes Isle Royale National Park (NP), Voyageurs NP, Apostle
Islands National Lakeshore (NL), Indiana Dunes NL, Sleeping Bear Dunes
NL, Pictured Rocks NL, Saint Croix National Scenic River, Mississippi
River National Recreation Area, Grand Portage National Monument. The
Northern Great Plains eco-region includes Theodore Roosevelt NP, Wind

Military Park. Following the review of existing data, park service
personnel will prioritize the park s' inventory needs in the respective
networks. The baseline inventory of vascular plants and vertebrate
species will be used in developing the second phase of the Natural
Resource Challenge to establish an individualized vital signs'
monitoringprogram for each park. The extent of each park program will
depend on the resource issues affecting park resources. If this project
