World Hash Events: December 2019

Hello hashers,

As you may already be aware, the recognized oldest active hasher passed away on 9 Oct 2019. I last saw him at INTERHASH 2018 in Fiji, where he addressed the gathered crowd at the venue. He was 96, and we should not be sad, but celebrate his life and contributions. Here’s the Sydney Posh Hash notice:

“VALE DONALD ERNEST GRENVILLE (“Darwin Don”)
19 March, 1923 — 9 October, 2019
It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of Don Grenville, “Darwin Don.” He simply ran out of puff a bit after mid-day on 9 October, 2019. Darwin Don was a Life Member, and the oldest and most popular member of the Sydney Hash House Harriers. We believe that he was the oldest Hash House Harrier globally, and certainly among the most cherished. He was a member of the Hash since 1975 and was until recently reasonably active. Darwin led a full life in various roles and served his Country with distinction during years of military duty.

As with any ending, it brings a new beginning. With the passing of Darwin Don . . . who is now the oldest active hasher? For the purpose of this inquiry, active would be defined as someone who consistently hashes more than once per month. I know of several hashers still tracking trails, well into their 80s. If you know one as well, please submit their name, birthdate, and HHH Club they run with to me and we'll see who will carry the mantel.

InterAmericas Hash 2019 was held on a boat, filled only with hashers, that sailed out of Florida and down to the Bahamas. From the many pictures posted online, it appears it was a rousing good time. As is often the norm, the next site was voted on and confirmed. InterAmericas Hash 2021 will be hosted 3-6 September by the Medellin H3 in Medellin, Colombia. The initial 1000 registrations sold out fast, in less than 24 hours, so an additional 500 were added, and they have also sold out. Looks like Colombia will be a hot ticket. Speaking of hosting hash events, there are several websites that provide options depending on what sort of event you are holding. Some are dedicated to only hashing events, and are easily available on the WWW.
