Hello hashers,

More on my recently completed wander around South America.

Brasilia H3 N+221 : (Brazil – 28 Nov) What a day, the forecast projected 70% change of rain all day, but yet the RA managed to hold it off throughout.  So we had a gathering of 15 hashers to start trail at the Jungle Bar.  After the usual berating from the GM, the pack was sent off on trail.  With only 5 runners, and 10 walkers, it was an effort for the runners to break the checks, but it all worked out.  We found the first photo stop by the lake, and good efforts from the hares, we all showed up about the same time.  From there it was back out in search of trail . . . crossing a couple roads, and grassy fields, the pack eventually found the beer check about a half kilometer from the finish on this 8.5 Km (5.2 mile) trail . . . and then it was on in for multiple air strikes on the beer cooler, as the pack refreshed in preparation for the circle.  Hash Master Opulence called in the hares, yup he was one of them, and we eventually worked over the whole pack.  It was a most excellent trail, and the whole pack was so friendly  . . . I will DEFINITLY be back to hash in Brasilia again.  https://www.relive.cc/view/vPOpd2YzZEO

Asuncion H3 #1 : (Paraguay – 5 Dec) It has been 18 years since the last time Paraguay had a hash trail, but today was the day of a new beginning.  Ban the Cock and Double Dutch Mountains have been here a year, but were feeling something missing in their lives . . . so a hash club was needed.  Well off the beaten path, the trail started out near the airport, but after crossing a few streets, trail found its way into the grassy hinterland, going down dirt streets, foot paths, and through some dense undergrowth on its way across the countryside.  We had 2 hares, and seven hounds set off in chase, with 3 runners at first, then one started walking, and one meandered onto the walkers trail, so I had the Twilight Zone aura of hashing alone, and breaking all the checks.  Since it was the first hash in 18 years here, you would expect a lot of visitors.  But it was a bit unusual to have one visitor from Mozambique (Maputo H3), one from Brazil (Brazil Nuts H3), one from Bolivia (La Paz H3), two virgins (one from Brazil and one from Holland), a transplant from Trinidad and Tobago, our two hares from Europe . . . and little ole me (I don’t remember where I am from anymore).  A robust circle followed trail, and then we all headed up the street for dinner.  Great fun with many new hashers and new friends, and probably the best trail I have run in South America.  Well Done, and long live the Asuncion H3.  https://www.relive.cc/view/vDqgkyJrJVq

Quito H3 #1 : (Ecuador – 11 Dec) After about 8-10 years, the capital city of Ecuador is once again home to a hash club.  For the second week in a row in South America, a new hash club has begun, this week in Quito, Ecuador.  We had 25 hashers at the start, and after the customary chalk talk, and introductions, the pack set off on an elevation challenged trail, peaking at 9852 feet.  It had rained in the early morning hours, which gave the trail that extra muddy feeling, and we splashed our way along.  Reaching the Runner (8 Km) / walker (6 Km) split, the pack bisected and continued on.  As all things that go up, they must also come down.  So did the pack, eventually reaching the On-In where copious amounts of cold beverages awaited the thirsty pack.  The circle was overwhelmed by first time hashers here in Ecuador, but they all seemed enthusiastic to come back out for another go round.  Almost the entire pack joined us at the après for food, beer, and socializing.  Wishing much success to the future of Quito H3, and thanks for letting me hare your first (rebirth) trail.  If you want to fly the trail with the runners, see it here . . . https://www.relive.cc/view/vPv4ympyM3O

It has been over 26 months now that I have gone full vagabond, ridded my life of almost every personal belonging, and traveled the world full time. It has taken me to many hash events, many trails (over 300) with many hash clubs, in many countries.  Bucket list items have been crossed off, and many many new friends made.  What a ride.  No telling how much longer I will want to stay on the road, but for now . . . the next hash event begins on 21 January.  Many of my exploits can be found at . . . http://gotothehash.net/history/inthespotlight.html
