World Hash Events: August 2024

Greetings Hashers,
Wow, if it was not apparent that hash events are on the rise, this should be your wake up call. There are 28 scheduled events coming up in August, in at least 7 different countries. Including the following notable events as the New Orleans Red Dress Run, the Spice Train from Moscow to Vladivostok, 50th Anniversary of the Little Rock H3, the 38th Pan Indo Hash, German Nash Hash, and the USA Nash Hash. Just to name a few. See the whole list below.

A BIT OF HASH HISTORY FROM 1984
Sixty years ago, there were only 8 hash clubs that existed. They were all in Malaysia, which had just recently gained its independence on 16 Sep 1963 (at that time, Singapore was still part of Malaysia). The only exception was Brunei (which was British until it gained its independence on 1 Jul 1984). Two of those 8 were founded in June 1964:
Sibu H3 - Founded in Jun 1964, founder unknown. (Original club folded ~1966, but was restarted 8 Oct 1995 by Ambrose Chung).
Jesselton H3 - Founded on 22 Jun 1964, by George Will (name changed to the Kota Kinabalu H3 years later).
Forty years ago, by June of 1984, over 560 hash clubs had formed (and some folded), in over 90 different countries. The clubs founded in June 1984 were:
Essex H3 United Kingdom
Templer H3 Malaysia
Colombo HH Harriettes Sri Lanka
Chittagong H3 Bangladesh
Broken Hill H3 Australia
Truro H3 United Kingdom
Also in 1984 . . . INTERHASH was held in Sydney, Australia (in April) and the InterAmericas’ Hash was founded in San Jose, Costa Rica (in February). Finally, I . . . your nerdy hash historian, ran my first trail in Oct 1984 and it changed my life forever.

INTERCARIBBEAN HASH
The restart of the Inter-Caribbean Hash was held 11-16 June in Grenada. Looks like everyone had a good time. The announcement is out for Inter-Caribbean Hash 2026 to be via cruise. I have done about 10 Caribbean HASH cruises over the past decade, and can assure you they are always a good time. Hope to see some of you there in 2026.

UPDATE: All China Nash Hash in November. Apparently some people around the globe (especially China 🫣) had problems submitting the registration form via the website. That issue is now fixed.

PAN SOUTH AMERICA HASH
The first Pan SOAM Hash event was recently held in Brasilia, Brazil. Over 135 hashers participated in this 3-5 day event, which had prelubes and postlubes in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo in Brazil, as well as in Asuncion, Paraguay. A final commemorative program is being drafted with all the details and memories tainted in beer and cachaça.
PAN SOAM 2026 is still in development, and will be announced in the near future.
