Hello hashers,

This month's hashing missive is provided while I'm on the road, from my little hash hotel here south of the equator. I had been hashing for about 15 years, before I really started to think globally. Since then, I have often wondered about hashing in South America. There has always been plenty of information on hash clubs and events from most everywhere around the world, but very seldom did I hear about events or information about hash clubs or runs on the continent. So after decades of wonder, I have finally come down here to see for myself. My first stop was Cuenca, Ecuador. A week of getting to know the local hashers and seeing the sights, along with a hash trail with the Cuenca Alpaca's H3 provided my first impression. Next up was a week on the beach, and a hash run with the Playas H3 in Playas, Ecuador. The Playas H3 is like the Olympics, once every four years. There first was in 2013, then 2017, and I was fortunate to be on hand for run #3. Playas is a lovely place, and has an amazing 4 mile long beach, incredible. The next week here, was crossing a bucket list item off, with a trip out to the Galapagos Islands to walk in the steps of Charles Darwin. Giant Tortoises, Iguanas, Sea Turtles, Sea Lions, birds birds birds, and all sorts of fish and other sea creatures . . . totally amazing (and Tortuga Bay Beach has to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world). The Galapagos Boobies H3 is no longer active, but I did meet up with one of the original Boobies for dinner and drinks, and got a lot of good inside scoop.

Next, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Colombia to meet Pablo Pisscobar and his young hash club of energetic hounds. As you may know, Pablo is the Chairman, planning the next InterAmericas’ Hash that will take place here in Medellin in September 2022 (the first time ever in South America). While here, we discussed various aspects of planning large hashing events, and all that goes along with that, as well as tour one of the potential venue locations, to assess its ability to support (looking very good). I also had the opportunity to spend a couple nights in the newly constructed Hash House . . . I promised not to leak to much info, as construction is still underway. Pablo is going to release more details in the future . . . but I can tell you, it really exists (unlike the other one being planned) and has a wonderful view of Medellin. My final stop will be an outstation run with the Bogota H3 this weekend. All the details will be provided in an upcoming IN THE SPOTLIGHT article on Colombia.

While here in South America, I had hoped to get to Brazil and maybe Peru, but no such luck at this time. As other parts of the world continue to see-saw in and out of COVID restrictions, good news from Japan:

"Well, it’s been a long time coming, but the state of emergency is over! What does that mean you ask? It’s time to resume the Samurai Hash!!! This Saturday we will run Samurai run number 2324. We will continue with hash cash being ¥500 which will include down down beers. Any beverages you would like can be purchased at the convenience store nearby. As we move forward, we will move back towards a return to 100% normal, but bear with us as we continue to cautiously resume our hash."

As always, I wish all hashers around the globe health and safety, and happy trails.

As I have made mention of in the past, the hash genealogy contains the life record of every known hash club. I have recently joined the team to upkeep this database. Key elements required to register a club is:

* Name of Club
* Nicknames
* Type of club (e.g. Mixed, Men Only, Women Only, etc)
* When does it run
* Location (city, country)
* Date of first trail
* Date of last trail (if no longer active, and if known)
* Founder's Name
* Primary assistants to founder
* Founder's previous hash club
* And a data file of the club logo

If your club's data is missing, incorrect, or not listed at all, you can fill out the comment form . . . or send you updates directly to me, and I will take care of it.

Please provide appropriate documentation for the source of your information.
