Abstract
Ocean models are a fundamental tool in Ocean Sciences. They are applied across various spatial and temporal scales and at different levels of complexity. This session invites contributions that address recent advances in numerical techniques, formulations of the dynamical core, turbulence closure through parameterizations, and the integration of machine learning approaches. We also welcome studies on methods for seamless coupling across the scales and consistent coupling with the atmosphere, waves, sea ice, and biogeochemistry. Contributions exploring coupling problems between Earth system components where one of the components is replaced by an emulator are highly encouraged. In addition, we foster contributions that focus on parameter calibration, sensitivity analysis, and uncertainty quantification. These aspects are critical for improving the predictive skill, robustness, and interpretability of model outputs. Finally, contributions highlighting design principles for the next-generation ocean models on GPU and exascale supercomputers are also welcome.
