On Monday, we asked you to take action to stop Congress from demanding a military blockade against Iran — which, under
international law, could be considered an act of war. Congress has begun to reconsider this resolution.
Tens of thousands of you responded with the urgency and passion due the moment, and I thank you for that. But we can do more. As one of you wrote, "A blockade will push us towards an unnecessary war for which we have neither the resources nor the desire to engage. No good can come from this. Please prevent it." Will you send this to five friends and help build on our momentum? For your convenience, we've also included some sample text below. Feel free simply to forward this message along. Thanks for fighting back, and for all that you do.

Sample e-mail for your friends, family and colleagues: Dear Friend, Is it so hard to believe that Democrats and Republicans in Congress would move towards war with Iran, even before President Bush does? House Resolution 362 demands that President Bush spearhead an international effort to create a land, air and sea blockade of Iran, both to prevent Iran from exporting oil and petroleum-based goods and to impose strict inspections on all of its imports. Make no mistake about it, this resolution is only steps away from war with Iran. And it has serious momentum in Congress. However, some members of Congress have begun to back away from this resolution, giving us a window of opportunity to change it. I just signed a petition calling on the House leadership to remove language from the bill calling for a military blockade, and to stress diplomatic engagement instead — I hope you will too. Please have a look and take action. |
