Hey, I'm a newbie to this sort of thing so it's probably something really simple but here's the issue:
  • I'm running OSX 10.11.6
  • I download gyb from the repository - gyb-1.0-macos.tar.xz
  • I Unzip the file
  • I follow "Step 3: Running GYB for the First Time" for mac
  • First time running I got an error about python not being a valid program, so installed python3 from here: https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-352/
  • Now when I run the command

    python3 gyb.py --email youremail@gmail.com --action estimate

    I get

/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/Resources/Python.app/Contents/MacOS/Python: can't open file 'gyb.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory

So instead I run (no .py on gyb)
python3 gyb --email youremail@gmail.com --action estimate
    But then I get

    File "gyb", line 1

SyntaxError: Non-UTF-8 code starting with '\xcf' in file gyb on line 1, but no encoding declared; see http://python.org/dev/peps/pep-0263/ for details

Any ideas that could help me? Thanks!

Try running:

./gyb --email your...@gmail.com --action estimate

Mate you're a legend! Can't believe how quick you were to respond. That worked perfectly :)

Thank you! I'll be in touch if there's any other issue.

Thanks for your time,

Hi,

I am getting the same errors but this solution has not worked. Just wondering if there is anything else I need to do.

I have uploaded this gyb-1.31-linux-x86_64-glibc2.15.tar.xz to a Google Computer Engine (running Debian) that is already set up with GAM. It has Python 3.5.3.
I renamed the file to gyb.tar.xz (to make it easier to type) and unpacked from my home directory so I now have a folder called /home/my-named-directory/gyb with
gyb  lastcheck.txt  LICENSE

Running python3 gyb.py --my.e...@domain.com --action estimate gives
python3: can't open file 'gyb.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory

In the gyb directory I can see that the file does not have the .ph suffix so running python3 gyb --my.e...@domain.com --action estimate gives
File "gyb", line 1
SyntaxError: Non-UTF-8 code starting with '\xe8' in file gyb on line 2, but no encoding declared; see http://python.org/dev/peps/pep-0263/ for details

This fix suggested running gyb --email my.e...@domain.com --action estimate, but this gives
-bash: gyb: command not found

Does anyone know what I have missed or need to change?

Thanks in advance

James
