Hi all,

I need to restore a normal gmail mailbox to a google workspace collaborative email group.

Can it be done with a single gyb command or do I need two steps, first backup to file and then restore to group?
Is there a step by step guide or at least two command line examples to use?

Thanks for your help, for what I've read up to know it seems it should be possible to:
1. google takeout of simpl...@gmail.com
2. gyb --email myg...@mycompany.com --action restore-group --service-account --use-admin super...@mycompany.com <somethingelse to tell where the messages are to be read>

Am I close?

Mike,

This is what I had noted down that I used recently:

gyb --action restore-mbox --service-account --use-admin my_admin...@domain.org --email group's_email...@domain.org --local-folder local_folder

Assuming the Google Takeout's export format is just an .mbox file - I use Google Vault for exports and stick to .mbox - with the unzipped .mbox file in a local_folder inside the GYB folder.

Best of luck,
Z

Thanks but I am missing something here.
I need to import messages to a google group.
For what I understand you are importing messages to a local file of mbox format. How do you access that file then?
How can the mbox file be seen as a "Goggole Group"?

I am sorry maybe I am missing some big point here.

this seems to work after using google takeout to save a .mbox file with the messages:
gyb --email grou...@domain.com --action restore-group --service-account --use-admin ad...@domain.com --local-folder c:\mbox\ --noresume

I had to use --noresume because I previously used both -action restore-group --action restore-mbox
so at first attempt all emails where imported in the admin inbox
I also confirm the all messages can be imported in a normal mailbox, where I get errors about message size when importing to group:
Restoring from 91.17mb file c:\mbox\accou...@gmail.com.mbox...
 message 8 - 51.85%
ERROR: Media larger than: 26214400 - Giving up.
 message 9 - 100.00%
ERROR: Media larger than: 26214400 - Giving up.
