Hello,

While restoring some 70,000 emails, I am getting constant errors like this :

Temp error backendError. Backing off

After hours of retries.. it is still progressing, but extremely slowly, it will probably take many days, or weeks, to complete.... Is this purely google issue and nothing I can do about it?

What is odd, is when I run it with --debug, am seeing good responses!!

Without --debug the log looks like so:

...
Temp error backendError. Backing off 60 seconds...attempt 8/10

Temp error backendError. Backing off 60 seconds...attempt 9/10

Temp error backendError. Backing off 60 seconds...attempt 10/10

500: Temporary System Problem. Try again later. - backendError
 - Giving up.
restoring 15 messages (515/57118)
Temp error backendError. Backing off 16 seconds...attempt 5/10

Temp error backendError. Backing off 32 seconds...attempt 6/10

Temp error backendError. Backing off 60 seconds...attempt 7/10

Restore can be very resource intensive on a Gmail mailbox. If you're actually using the mailbox during the restore then you should backoff GYB's batch size with something like:

--batch-size 1

Thanks Jay. I will try  --batch-size 1

so with  "--batch-size 1" it is indeed progressing without warnings/errors.... but very slowly, 100 messages in 5 minutes... would it speed up later you think? if the mailbox becomes idle maybe?
