Can I restore G Suite / Google Workspace emails to a public / general internet Google Groups (ie, groups.google.com)?

I have emails backed up from a different Google Workspace account.

I am trying to restore it as a Google Group but under my MYGM...@gmail.com account . I have created and presently am the admin of MYNEW...@googlegroups.com 

Tried the below, but got 404s.

gmvault-shell>gyb --action restore-group --email MYNEW...@googlegroups.com --use-admin MYGM...@gmail.com --local-folder tempdata

Saw this today. Is it correct that APIs aren't accessible in the public groups.google.com, so tools like GYB cannot be used here? Has anyone used GYB to restore to a public groups?

Correct, the APIs do not work with @googlegroups.com groups. Thus you can't use GYB to restore to public @googlegroups.com groups.
