I am experiencing a strange issue trying to use GYB to restore to a group.  I have used GYB and GAM for quite some time so I am very familiar with the process.  When I setup GYB with this particular Workspace early last week everything worked correctly and I was able to backup an email account and then restore to a Group.  A few days later I tried another restore to a group and it would not process.  I ran a service account check and it showed all scopes failed for the group.  I ran the service account check against a valid email address and they all passed.  No changes made to anything at this point.

I have since created a new project and run the setup process again for the same Workspace and I have the same issue.  Using a service account all scopes pass for email accounts but fail for group emails.

Any thoughts on what the issue could be?

I just tried backing up a Group using the same command I've always used gyb --email <email_of_group> --service-account but got an error saying 'unauthorized_client'. I added myself as an owner of the Group and ran it again. Same error.
I then ran  gyb --email <email_of_group> --use-admin <my_email_address> and it worked

scratch that...it backed up my emails instead! I only discovered it while I was restoring the emails to another Group!

GYB doesn't support backing up groups because Google doesn't support backing up groups via API.

If you need to backup groups your options are Takeout and Vault.

I haven't used GYB for a while, but this is my exact use-case in the past, and I was about to do it again, and wanted to come check all the relevant discussion areas and such to be sure nothing has changed and whether or not I need a new version, etc.

Was this resolved?
Did you ever get your account backed up and restored to a group?

John,

I cannot recall the issue resolution exactly, but I am fairly sure it was user error on my part. I think I had a permission or group access issue with the account I was using. In the end everything worked as expected, if I recall correctly
