Pretty close.  It's a quiet release. The plan has been to sneak it out and have the hardcore enthusiasts try it out, for about a week or so, before we make more noise.  If you've noticed the IJ plugin release, or if you're simply subscribed to this group, that pretty much qualifies you has a "hardcore enthusiast."

Which version of IJ will  this support? I have the latest open source version installed - IJ 11.x. I installed the Gosu plugin and am trying to create a project. How do I add Gosu programs or classes to a java project? I dont see any options for creating a Gosu project in the new project options.

Regards,
Satyajit Nashikkar

Hi Satyajit,

The plugin works with IJ 11.x.  The first step is to open up the configuration for your project, and select the 'Default Gosu SDK' as your SDK.  At that point, you should be able to create a new package and, inside that, a new Gosu class or program.  (We do not allow you to create gosu classes in the root namespace.)

Hope that helps,
Carson

Thanks. One more question - typically , I would keep my gosu program files and templates separate from any supporting gosu classes/enhancements. How would I do this if adding any gosu artifact to my project requires me to first create a package? I would expect that the plugin would allow me to create a gsp or gtl file outside of the package by making this menu option available.

Another thing... it would be nice to have a project wizard that lets me create a Gosu project and creates the correct layout of directories that are recommended.

:)

There is currently a bit of controversy around this issue here at Gosu-central.  I'm inclined towards a

  /src - classes, etc.
  /bin - programs

layout, kind of like brian has w/ his p4 tools project:

but currently that isn't well supported in the editor environment, and there are conflicting opinions on if this is ideal.

For now, keeping the programs in your source directory, in a package, is the only way to get code completion, etc.  We'll come to some sort of an agreement on this in the next few weeks and offer guidance at that point.

On your second point, I know Scott is working on exactly that, so it should be available soon.

Cheers,
Carson

Any special magic required to run this on a mac?  I've set the SDK to my Default Gosu SDK for both my project and the module I'm editing, and I only get the new-> Java,File dialog.   If I select File and enter foo.gs as my file, It asks to associate it to an editor, and there is no Gosu editor as I expected.

So I must be doing something wrong.  I'm on IJ 11 CE on a Mac.  My Java SDK is the basic 1.6. I've re-started IJ, rebooted my mac.   What am I missing?

One thing that has been tripping people up is that you need to have a package defined to create new Gosu resources.

Cheers,
Carson

Okay, solved...

Looks like the Gosu plugin was disabled.   I'm not sure why, but even though I had the Gosu SDK selected, the plugin itself wasn't turned on.   I re-checked the box next to the Gosu Plugin in the Plugin manager, it prompted me to restart IJ, and now I'm up and running.
