The file viewer offers very limited space for displaying file names that are several folders into the vault. Instead of being compact like in some other productivity tools, Obsidian prioritises visuals, but this is obviously bad for productivity.
I can see that Modern viewer may have the ability to provide some greater functionality in future, but it needs to not lose the visual efficiency of its classic counterpart in the process. The Interactive Table (legacy) node is the only way I can currently work with data output within a similar efficiency that I get in classic, but having to drop them on the workflow significantly negates that efficiency.
Nautilus has two views, a list view showing details about the files, and an icon view that shows icon and file name only. In either view, press Ctrl+-, and you see the icons can be decreased to a really small size, rendering the view quite compact.
As the name implies, this compact view tightens up margins and padding, and combined with breaking timings out into their own columns has allowed us to display around 2-3x as many rows when compared to Normal View. This means less scrolling to get to lower rows and a greater overall view of your rundown.

Optical imaging has rapidly evolved in the last decades. Sophisticated microscopes allowing optical sectioning for three-dimensional imaging or sub-diffraction resolution are available. Due to price and maintenance issues, these microscopes are often shared between users in facilities. Consequently, long-term access is often prohibited and does not allow to monitor slowly evolving biological systems or to validate new models like organoids. Preliminary coarse long-term data that do not require acquisition of terabytes of high-resolution images are important as a first step. By contrast with expensive all-in-one commercialized stations, standard microscopes equipped with incubator stages offer a more cost-effective solution despite imperfect long-run atmosphere and temperature control. Here, we present the Incubascope, a custom-made compact microscope that fits into a table-top incubator. It is cheap and simple to implement, user-friendly and yet provides high imaging performances. The system has a field of view of 5.5 8 mm2, a 3 μm resolution, a 10 frames per second acquisition rate, and is controlled with a Python-based graphical interface. We exemplify the capabilities of the Incubascope on biological applications such as the hatching of Artemia salina eggs, the growth of the slime mould Physarum polycephalum and of encapsulated spheroids of mammalian cells.
Outlook and eM Client show a compact message list view, when you slide the width of the message list below a certain point (see images 1-2 below). It does this by Putting the sender above the subject (or vice-versa), in the message list pane. This allows you to easily read all the important information, in full, with increased screen real-estate for other things. Thunderbird places all message list information in strict, side-by-side columns, no matter how narrow you adjust the message list pane (see image 3 below). This means the information is truncated, and that you can no longer easily read it.
