I've installed gOS Gadgets on my computer and by default it is using
xcompmgr, I want to enable compiz instead but having some issues.

Attempting to enable desktop effects doesn't work, running compiz from
the terminal shows that it cannot start with xcompmgr running.

If I disable xcompmgr, compiz will start but now the gadgets are
messed up and have grey backgrounds instead of transparent.

Is there a way to fix this? I would much rather have the compiz
desktop effects running but would like to keep the gadgets!

yes open your sessions and make sure that xcompmgr is disabled then reboot it should work i had the same problem then if you dont use compiz and reinable xcompmgr you will have to reboot or you will have the gray box

Thanks for your quick reply, will try a reboot and see if this fixes
it!

Do I need to add Compiz to sessions start list or will it start
automatically once enabled?

Yep that sorted it!

Disabled xcompmgr, rebooted.
Enabled compiz, got grey boxes.
Rebooted, boxes are gone and compiz is working nicely :)

Ahh I did that & still got the grey boxes using Compiz.
1) I rebooted after disabling xcompmgr.
2) Enabled Compiz, its working great + added it to the startup
sessions. (Seeing grey boxes here) Rebooting
3) Booting with Compiz on startup, still seeing grey boxes?

Please tell me what I'm doing wrong? :(
