gOS Dock Disappeared?

I just got gOS up and running, went through a complicated ndiswrapper
install and finally found out how to get my video card running. After
a reboot I found the dock was missing and cannot seem to re-enable it.
Help me!?

Okay, as an update, the dock disappears while using restricted drivers
for my ATI card, but comes back while I'm not. Strange. Any way to
remedy this?

When using the ATI Driver, make sure that under Menu -->System --
>Preferences--> Sessions at the bottom of that dialog WBar is listed.
If not check the below.

Make sure that in WBar_Util located in your Accesories menu, that when
you go to the advanced settings you set WBar to being at startup.

Hope that is what you are looking for.

I experienced the same problem as Makingheadway but it didn't happen
after making any changes to my video drivers. It happend when I tried
to add a program to the dock using wbar_util, but when I restarted the
dock was gone. I tried your suggestion, Kevin, but it didn't seem to
make any difference. Any suggestions?

Download this program, install it, andthen try editing your dock.

Be sure to go to File -> Settings inside this dialog and set the bar
to begin at startup.

This is the dialog for WBar which will be included in the final
release.

WBar_Util the one pushed originally has more options but doesn't seem
to work right all the time with how WBar was set up for the beta.

Afterwards if WBar Conf worked go ahead and remove WBar Util from your
system through the Synaptic Package Manager or command line if you are
familiar with that method.

sudo apt-get wbarutil

Thanks Kevin! The update solved the problem. I will say that the first
attempt failed, so I completely removed wbar and wbar_util, then
downloaded and installed both. Once that was done everything was
great...and it should be noted that after saving the wbar
configuration it is necessary to click "refresh" to see the changes to
the bar immediately.

Kevin, the wbar has disappeared from my desktop as well. I have
checked the startup and it appears to be there. Is there anyway to
force it to launch?

Access the WBar Conf dialog in Accessories.

The File -->Settings on the toolbar in the dialog.

Be sure to set WBar to run above the desktop.

That should work.

Hi guys... new to this group and relatively new to gOS.

I have also managed to somehow make my dock disappear, and I've tried
everything in this particular thread to get it back. I've made sure
that the wbar is set to run at startup, the wbar is set to run above
the desktop (and no 'alfa' settings are changed), I've completely
uninstalled/reinstalled both wbar and wbarconf... nothing. I really
don't want to have to reinstall the OS just to get this thing back,
especially when every indication is that it is running and working
fine.

What's my next step of investigation?

Make any adjustments that need to be made there and save them.

That should get your dock back and allow you to use your own
configuration for it,

Be sure to hit refresh in WBar Conf.

In my sessions preferences, there was an existing entry
wbar_delay.sh . I removed that one and added the one you recommended.
Went into wbarconf and made sure that it was still set to appear on
top of other windows/desktop, refreshed, and... nothing.

When I go to terminal and type "wbar --above-desk" (or just "wbar"), I
get "Using /home/*username*/.wbar config file. -> Image not found.
Maybe using a relative path?" I get this when at the normal root
prompt, and also when in the directory that contains wbar. Should I
try reinstalling (again) wbarconf?

In WBar id you see a list of applications? If so then be sure to save
both your setup and the applications list.


Then open a terminal and then copy and paste the next line.
sudo apt-get install prism-google-mail prism-facebook prism-google-
calendar prism-google-talk prism-google-docs

This is too make sure you have each of the prism applications that
your need for the following wbar setup.

Now open your text editor and paste the following lines between the
dashes (do not paste the dashes),
and save this file as .wbar (a dot followed by wbar) in /home/
yourusername

Make sure that wbar -above-desk is still located in your sessions.
After these steps Logout and back in.

You can easily refresh your wbar if you experience any unwanted screen
junk underneath it by right clicking. You'll know what I am talking
about when you see it.
There is a small bug associated with WBar that causes it too display
screen junk when it is loaded too quickly.

OK... new development. I followed your instructions (installed any
missing apps, copy/pasted the text and saved as .wbar), and after a
restart, my bar was back!! Afraid to change any settings, when I
opened up the wbarconf, the only change I made was to add Picasa as an
app on the bar (like it was there upon the fresh OS install). After I
added Picasa and hit refresh, the bar disappeared again.

Would I be better off to edit the .wbar file manually to add an
application? What caused the bar to disappear by adding an
application?

So, after I replaced (again) the contents of .wbar with your copy/
pasted text, it came back once again after a restart. Then, I used
wbarconf to edit the text of the icon for Blogger (the text said
Google Reader). After hitting refresh, the bar accurately reflected my
changes. This time, instead of Picasa, I tried to add a link to Google
Reader. I added the application, selected the icon, and used "firefox
http://www.google.com/reader/" for the path, and again upon
refreshing, the bar disappeared.

I thoroughly flummoxed.

Make sure that you have also enetered the WBar settings in the WBar
Conf and allow WBar to run over the desktop.

In WBarConf go to File --> Settings

Click the above-desk checkbox. Save. Refresh.
