to Goshen Bikes
The weather is looking good today (Saturday, May 12), so I'm going to spend some time this afternoon out on the Millrace single track -- both biking and doing some trail maintenance. I'll be shooting for mid-afternoon, maybe leaving the Dam Pond parking lot around 2:30 PM, and being out for ~1.5 hours. My son (almost 10) is interested, so this will not be a fast-paced ride, and nor will there be lots of trail maintenance -- but it should be fun and every little bit of maintenance counts! There aren't very many bugs out yet, and the plants are nice and soft, so this is the perfect time to do maintenance.
As a broader initiative, it would be great to get a group together to do trail maintenance in late Spring, mid Summer, and mid-Fall -- I think 3 times a year is enough to keep things under control. I don't care about most plants; I'm mainly concerned with the overgrowth of briars and undergrowth of nettles -- but there's always the stray logs and branches and such too. Maybe we can get Forester Aaron (S-K) involved in one of these, to make it a larger clean-up effort -- he's done some great work in the past along these lines, so I'd hope to do suck work again and leverage it to include train maintenance.
Maybe (hopefully?) we'll see some others out there today! - MLD
