Dear Lori and others who took home samples of sprouts,

In case you did not get all the information, the sprouts were all different varieties of Daikon radish. White, purple, red, and China Rose stem.

For some people, they may be a bit hot/spicy when eaten alone. I like to sprinkle them in a green salad, put them in sandwiches, add to stir fry dishes, and use as a garnish on soups, etc.

They are ready to harvest in 8-15 days from the time you start them.

I think the easiest way to grow them is in a wide mouth short mason jar. Just put seed in jar with a small amount of water, just enough to keep them wet. And  remember to rinse them every day or two.

I suggest covering the jar top with a small piece of mesh, screen, or even square of old pantyhose. Hold it in place with a rubber band. Make it easy to rinse them.

They can be purchased from Kitazawa Seed Company, www.kitazawaseed.com, for $3.39 per small package or $5.25 to $7.00 per pound, a far more economical way to buy them. Call them or order a catalog on line for outstanding Oriental veggie seeds, both winter and summer growers.

Thanks, everyone, for your good energy,

Christina Brittain

Thank YOU Christina - for your kind words and for the presentation on
oriental vegetables - I'm enjoying my sprouts!
They're labeled "purple stem" - what kind of vegie are they? They
have such a nice zesty flavor!
The Forum was really fun to do - I look forward to making it a
tradition! I'm so glad you and Bud were able to attend.
-Lori
