Is there a way to tell if an incoming call/VM was made to my GV or my real cell number?  I've looked through the settings and info for each incoming call and I cannot tell to which number the call was placed from the caller. I do not know which number this particular caller has of mine and I do not want to ask, that defeats the purpose of why I want this information.

Thanks

You can check your history in the web interface. If his calls are logged there then he is using your GV number.

I use GV for my VM service for my real number too, so all calls to either number show up in the call list. I just can't tell from there whether they were placed to my GV number or my real number. Seems like they could offer the ability to color code them differently to allow users to tell the difference. Sometimes I can't remember if I gave someone my real number or my GV number if it's been quite a while ago, so it would be nice. Something to think about for future features maybe. Thanks for your reply.

It'd be nice to have some color coding or indication, or at least a setting to turn on such.  I don't give out my real number, I honestly don't even know what my actual mobile number is.  Let us know if you find a work-around.

Do you have the Google Voice application installed on your Android phone?  If so, and you look under your GV history on your phone, if someone calls directly to your phone, it should not show up in the GV history on your cell phone either.

It actually does show up. Missed calls and/or voicemails to either my real or my GV number show up in the GV Android app history log. I do use GV as my voicemail service but I'm assuming so do most people who use the service, right? I have been able to find no way to tell them apart - calls to my real number and to the GV number. Crazy....

If you really need to differentiate between calls coming through GV and those coming straight to your phone's number, you can set GV number to come through as caller ID for numbers through GV.

This way you see your GV number show when people call your GV and see the caller's id when they directly call your phone. Clearly not ideal because you can't screen calls coming through GV since you can't see caller's ID. However, it is an option if differentiating between callers to GV and callers to phone number is important to you.

I think most of us just check the google voice app afterwards to see what number people actually called. Calls thru GV would show on app and calls directly to phone would be missing on GV app.

All calls to either number show up in the GV call log, that's my problem. People keep saying that only calls to the GV number show in the app but mine is showing calls to both GV and my real mobile number. The caller ID setup is a good suggestion but I rarely answer my phone if it is an unknown number and just wanted to be able to differentiate which number was dialed, after the fact. Thanks.

Hi again. I am still confused as to what log you are looking at. If you
look at your MOBILE PHONE CALL LOG, every call received should show up,
whether your Google Voice number was used by the caller or whether your
mobile phone number was used. However, if you have the GOOGLE VOICE APP
installed on your mobile phone, the GV APP should only show the calls
made to your GV phone number. But you have to click on MISSED CALLS,
etc., or just click on ALL CALLS to make sure everything shows. At
least, that is the way it is working on my mobile phone. We just did a
test that way, one directly to my mobile phone and one to my Google
Voice number and only the call made to GV showed up on the Google Voice
application. But both calls showed up on my call log for the phone
itself, which would make sense. If yours is not working that way, then
maybe there is a problem with the configuration or how it works with
your carrier?

Thanks again, Jerry. Yes, I'm referring to the call log in the GV app. I just tested it again and all calls made to either my mobile number or my GV number show up in the GV call log under INBOX, ALL CALLS, MISSED CALLS, etc. labels. Now, interestingly, only texts to my GV number show up in the log and that is what I would expect and prefer but as far as voice calls they all show up and there is no discernable difference in the icon, color or anything cosmetically that allows me to tell which number it came in on. I have Verizon service and have always used GV as my voicemail service but I assume many people do the same, so I'm not sure why this is happening. It's not causing me any major grief, I just wanted to be able to tell who used which number, mainly to determine if solicitors and such had my real number or not. From the responses I've gotten here it looks like my issue is atypical and if it was working as it should then I would easily be able to get the answer I want based on if the calls show up in the GV app. So, I'll go back to the drawing board!
