Hi Google TV team,

I greatly enjoyed your talk at Google IO yesterday. However, I didn't get a chance to stop by your area for Google TV Office Hours (i was standing in line to pick up a verizon hotspot :-)). Is it still possible to sign up for the 'Fishtank' program?

Thanks!

Thank you for your interest.

The Fishtank program was based on a limited availability of fliers for
I/O attendees, and the fliers (each with a unique code) were
distributed completely at I/O. Based on the tremendous response to
the program at I/O, we're looking into expanding the program. We'll
announce any additional developments with regard to the program on
this forum.

Stay tuned.

Thanks,

Andres

I have received the Logitech Revue from Google, but I couldn't do much
as I was waiting for Android SDKs. Can you please let us know whether
we can get FishTank, so that we can proceed with development plans.

Thanks.

Thanks!

I have a flyer given out at the Google IO's presentation of Google TV. It is a black flyer with a 'cut/push-out' to make a robot. Is that the flyer you mentioned?
If not, I'll stay tuned! :-)

No - there was a black flyer with white ink with a URL and a UNIQUE code on it to request participation in the FishTank program.

I think Lucky makes a good point. I'm also a developer that received a
Revue unit from Google. I understand the intent was to help enable use
to build websites compatible with Google TV. Got that going.

What kind of support for the revue unit will there be? Will we be able
to update the revue unit to 3.1 along the same timeframe as the
Fishtank device? Or will we have to be locked into just using the
emulator without a physical device till launch?

Best Regards,
Joe

You can use the emulator, or a tablet running honeycomb.

If i understood the Google IO's presentation of Google TV for Android apps correctly, the Revue (and other Google TV devices) will be updated to Android OS 3.1 about the same time that Fishtank devices become available. These updates will include a adb server that will allow your Google TV device to become debuggable.

Whilst I would like you to be right it wasn't my my takeaway from the
presentation. I had the impression that the fishtank devices would be
available sooner.

Some clarification: the Fishtank Program is based on the distribution of developer devices that are not commercially available.  Commercial devices, such as the Logitech Revue and Sony TVs, will be updated to the Honeycomb version of Google TV later this summer.

Has there been any update to as to when the software update for existing devices will be released?

Has anyone had a chance to play around with the Fishtank reference
device? Curious to hear feedback.

Just bought a new Sony Google TV last week. The fam is loving it over
the old 720p Apple TV. They prefer watching 1080p Netflix on Google TV
now. Trying to get them to switch over to YouTube Movies :)

Any idea if/when the Honycomb update will be pushed out to first gen
GTVs?

Hi,

We're happy to hear your family is already enjoying the Google TV experience!

Unfortunately the next version of Google TV is still in active
development, and all pre-production devices were distributed under a
Non Disclosure Agreement.

The Fishtank developers are working with us to make the next version
of Google TV even more awesome, and bring many more
cool and useful applications to Google TV.

Please be patient and stay tuned for updates about the new version of Google TV.

Thanks for the update Christian. I'm very anxious to develop apps for GTV 2.0.

There is a good deal of talk from the Logitech guys about updating the Revue sometime around end of August.

Thanks,

Dale,
Logitech only works the hardware piece, Google does all the software development and pushes updates straight from there update servers.  Google has been, unfortunately, almost silent since I/O about deploying Honeycomb, and as you can see by these forums and the lack of activity interest is waning due to negative information flow.

Do you have proof to show that Google is not working the software end and Logitech is working the hardware side?  Can you site any references?  Can you show an active development community for Google TV? the Google TV twitter feed has had 4 posts in the month of July.  I want Google TV to succeed in the worst way, but this is not the open community that the rest of Android is.
