Am I missing the obvious? I like the idea of Google TV, but there is one concept I cannot seem to find an answer to where ever I look on the internet...
Why isn't there a Google TV application for OS X, Windows or Linux?
Why isn't there just a an HTML 5 implementation of Google TV that runs out of any modern web browser, or even a Google TV plug-in (not that world needs yet another plug-in)?
Why does someone have to buy an Internet TV, or some other box like the LogiTech Revue in order to run Google TV?
There are hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of people out there who have Home Theater PCs, and many of them are also asking the same question - why do we have to go out an purchase yet another piece of 'hardware' - why can't Google TV just run on my HTPC? Many even seem to be willing to pay Google for a version of Google TV that runs in a HTPC, and they cannot understand why Google does not want their money.
I have a Sony XBR-65HX929 which is supposed to be able to run Google TV some day, but I can tell you right now it will never run Google TV very well. The processor in the XBR-65HX929 is way too slow, and there is not nearly enough memory (either persistent or not). I also have a PlayStation 3, but there is no Google TV app for that yet (so far as I know). I think Google would be doing the entire world a favor if there was a software-only version of Google TV, and avoid manufacturing even more plastic and metal destined for our landfills, avoid dumping even more carbon into the environment having to transport specialized devices like the LogiTech Revue all over place. I would much rather just have one decent Home Theater PC than a plethora of other devices cluttering up my living room.
I am sorry if this sound like advocacy, but I really would just like to have a simple answer to a simple question that I cannot seem to get answered anywhere?
