Got it working! Case sensitivity was indeed the issue. Though I didn't find any whitespaces, I also added TRIM() for good measure. Thank you all for the quick helpful responses!

I will echo Marcos on case sensitivity, I will add a Lower() formula to create a custom field in Data Studio for the student email, and that helps with the case sensitivity as well.
