Is there a way to share a LS dashboard for viewing on a mobile device for the general public?

We have a Veteran's Memorial Brick Walkway dashboard on our website but it is not mobile friendly and it appears users want to be able to locate their brick while at the memorial using their phone.

Any solutions out there?

Thanks,

Jan

Hi Jan,
I have not had luck with Looker Studio looking nice on mobile devices. I had a project where we needed a mobile view and after an evaluation of options in the marketplace, we ended up moving that project to Explo. They have a free tier for internal dashboards with pricing only coming into play when external folks need to enter it. That pricing seemed reasonable to us so we did later upgrade to the paid tier.

Under Theme and Layout, you can change the width and height of the dashboard canvas. We created a dashboard a while back to be viewed on mobile devices and found 350 px for the width to be a good option.

However, if someone tries to view it on a computer, they will just get the mobile view. I supposed you could have 2 different dashboards and set up an intermediate page to attempt to determine if it was a mobile device and redirect to one dashboard or the other accordingly.

I created one where I there was a (mobile sized) cover page where the user could choose mobile vs desktop versions, then those were separate pages in the report. (You can change the size of each page individually.) I turned off the navigation in that example. But if it’s a multi-page dashboard that’s not ideal.

Hello Jane, for the mobile version I use these measures 600 width and 1000 height (according to the project it is the height) but as Laura says if there are several pages it is not recommended, here is a current example

Thank you for your responses. Now that I am back from vacation I thought I should add that the issue has more to do with Search by Last Name Button. It is not user friendly and overlays the data table.

Suggestions on how to make that more user friendly?

Thanks,

Jan

Jan,

Have you considered using the Input Box filter type? It doesn't have a dropdown menu and would not cover up the data table.

Bucky:

I looked into using an input box but the issue I have is that it is case sensitive. Do you know a work around for this?

Thanks,

Jan

Hi Jan, the easiest thing to do is to create a calculated field of LOWER(last_name) and use it instead for the filter control (input box). Then instruct the user to enter the name without capitalization. (You can still use the appropriately capitalized information in the dashboard, the calculated field is just used for the filter control.)

Another more complex option (that allows the user to enter with any capitalization they like) is to create a parameter to use as the user input and then create a calculated field called "Include" that looks something like this:
IF(CONTAINS_TEXT(LOWER(last_name),LOWER(parameter)),1,0)
Then put a filter on the whole dashboard that only displays records where Include=1.
