Googe in the classroom

I'm not sure who I'm posting to but ....
 
I've taught in various sectors in Scotland and Ireland and I've always been making the case for using Google features for educational use.  Some institutions pay a lot of money to get custom-made (and not very slick) VLEs when most of what teachers and students want is available for free on Google.   I've used:  blogs (great for reflective and/or narrative learning); google sites; google groups; google drive; google calendar; google docs and now drive;  the forms on google docs are great for getting feedback and student evaluation.
 
Privacy settings can be set up so that it is just the students and the teacher who have access.  
 
I think it's an untapped resource - considering so many students have gmail accounts already, they are half-way there in terms of getting it.
 
Anyway, just thought I'd share my thoughts on this ...
