Hi,
I've volunteered to help Alessio Laiso get his wonderful Aleo font (http://alessiolaiso.com/aleo-font) open sources and prepared for submission to Google Fonts.

We've setup a GitHub repo for it and I've completed about half of the steps for validation of the TTF files with passing marks.

I've been following the guides that are posted, but didn't see how to get the Aleo font added to the Google sheet of reserved names.

Also, I welcome any suggestions or feedback.

Background: For those not aware, Alessio developed Aleo back in 2013. He released it for free and it has been used by a range of brands around the world, including the nonprofit that I work for, GlobalGiving.org. We are trying to switch to Chromebooks + Google docs internally, but our brand team doesn't want give up Aleo, so we've asked Alessio if he'd like us open source and submit Aleo to Google Fonts. He's graciously agreed and I'm supporting that effort. All credit goes to him for design. I'm just moving files around in git and setting file configuration parameters.

Thanks,
Kevin

Ideally the rfn would be dropped. If this is not possible, please explain why not :)

If I agree to an exception, I'll email you a rfn/rtm permission to be signed by the name holder

Thanks for doing this, I super appreciate it :)

Hi Dave,
Thanks! Happy to remove the rfn, however, the part that I was referring to need help with was passing this failed check for the GF Upstream document:

FAIL: Check the family is in GF Upstream document
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Family is not listed in the GF Master repo doc, http://tinyurl.com/kflp3k7.
Listing the family helps us keep track of it and ensure there is one original source

Any suggestions for how to get Aleo added here, or do you have the power to fix?

Thanks,
Kevin

Just following up to this thread to thank Dave and Marc for their help. Aleo is ready for submission to Google Fonts.

Aleo is definitely available through Google Fonts; I just downloaded it! However, it is suspiciously unavailable to add in G Suite (Docs, Sheets, etc). Any ideas as to why this is?

This confused me at first, too. What I learned is that the G Suite apps only include a pre-defined subset of Google Fonts (likely to keep the user interface to a reasonable number both for easy-of-use and performance reasons).

There are add-ons that third-party devs have made which make it possible to add additional Google fonts, including Aleo, to your Docs and Slides.

I haven't explored one for Sheets, so can't speak to that. However, my org is using the above two add ons to use Aleo in our docs and slides.
