Anyone else having issues with Roboto fonts? Specifically Roboto Slab.
I have it installed on a couple sites and all of a sudden it isn't loading and falling back to the alternative font. I've tried on a couple sites and static tests with the same result.

I'm sorry, the font have updated recently. Did you have it installed locally? If so try uninstalling it

Thanks for your reply Dave. Scratch my last....

Turns out it is because I have the font installed on my system. So basically on specific Google fonts including Roboto Slab, if the font is installed on your system it doesn't work in Firefox 57 as a web font. Only had this happen to one font in the past on Firefox 54 (Poppins), but the font author did something to resolve it.

At least it is just me. Most of the world probably don't have Google fonts installed.
Guess I just need to switch to Chrome.  :)

Thanks for your time.

I found a solution to this problem, by editing the Firefox configuration.

If locally installed fonts aren't working then this is likely a sandbox security issue.

You can set this pref to 2 or 1 on the about:config page to lower the sandbox security setting.

  • security.sandbox.content.level = 1
  • close and restart Firefox to make the change effective.
If '1' still doesn't have effect then try '0' to disable the sandbox. If this didn't work then undo/reverse the change and reset the pref via the right-click context menu to the default value.
---

I changed my setting to 2 (from 3), and it solved my problem.
As mentioned in this discussion on Mozilla support
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1187672

Hope it helps someone else.

Josh, thanks so much for tracking this down and reporting the issue upstream :)
