If you start on this page, http://www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi/public/options,
you see there's a button for nominating your community.

Are we going to encourage a representative from each community group
to click "nominate" and fill out this form?

The more nominations the better?

Yes. The more people that fill out the "nominate your community" form the better. Everyone should be trying to get everyone they know to fill out the form. The more people that fill out that form the better data that Google has to go on.

The nomination form includes this:

Web link to supporting material (YouTube videos and other creative submissions are encouraged!)

I think we really need to start getting some creative submissions.

It may be better to direct folks to Evanston's Google page first (http://cityofevanston.org/global/google.shtml) so they can see important announcements about the project. They then can click on the Nominate Evanston button to get to the link you give. Erika, would it be possible to move the Nominate Evanston button up a bit higher on the page so people don't miss it? Maybe flipping with the Volunteer button and putting the caption below Nominate Evanston instead of on top of? Forgive my pickiness, please. ;-) Thanks.

I agree.

How about asking all the businesses and non-profits in town to put a link in their e-newsletters? And a link on their websites. We need a good explanatory blurb because "vote for fiber" just doesn't make most people excited.

I still think signs in store windows is a good idea. If Central St. merchants could do it for "Save the Branches" can't we get people to do it for this?

As I described the Google proposal to the Central Street Neighbors
Association board the other night, I felt some resistance from some people
concerning Google as a large corporation. Just like fears that the FTTH
will result in more ugly V-RAD boxes, this concern should be acknowledged.
Many people in Evanston harbor anti-Big Business feelings.

The attached link is from a tech columnist that expresses the fear I'm
concerned we will encounter.

The incumbent ISPs and every other organization that is even measurably as successful as Google employs the same tactics that Google does as far as information gathering. At this point in time its just part of the ecosystem.

by the way that video is completely unfounded. I've seen others that were simliar and all were debunked.

they are known as videos that spread FUD. FUD=Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt.
