The City of Evanston is competing to become one of the communities where Google will build an ultra-high speed broadband fiber network.

If the City received the fiber network, every home, business, school, and organization in Evanston would have access to the Internet at speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today.

Google will choose where to build their network based on several factors including community support.

This is where you can help!

The Google fiber network in Evanston will provide more educational resources for our children, increased incentive for entrepreneurs to establish their businesses here, and provide Evanston first access to new and developing technology services. However, Evanston can only achieve this goal with your help.

Google wants to bring the fiber network technology to communities where residents are enthusiastic about enhanced Internet capabilities, vocal about new programs and services, and genuinely involved in their local government. Many Evanstonians encouraged the City to compete for this great opportunity, and the City listened. Now, the fate of Evanston’s digital future lies in all of our hands.

Please help spread the word about this unique opportunity. Encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to fill out the survey as well. Every response Google receives brings Evanston one step closer to a new era of technology!

Here's my nomination statement, just submitted:

Evanston, Illinois, incorporated in 1863, is my unique community.
Located at Chicago's northern boundary, home to world class
institutions, it offers its residents, businesses and organizations a
heady blend of urban and suburban living and working: Leafy
neighborhoods with magnificent upscale homes built a century ago,
scrappy neighborhoods full of successful middle-class aspirants, a sky-
scraping downtown, a Big Ten college campus with an unparalleled
lakefront footprint.

Evanston is, and has long been, a proudly multi-racial urban suburb
where I've been privileged to call home for the past 52 years, growing
up, and then choosing to raise a family of my own here.

Google's fiber program offers affordable and capacious world-class
access to the Internet's global resources that Evanston's school
children, businesses small and large, and institutions all deserve,
and that many today find restrictively inadequate and overpriced as
furnished by the legacy monopolistic cable and telecommunication
vendors.

Google's choice of Evanston, would reflect highly on Google's quality
values. Evanston's vigorous and talented residents, businesses and
institutions will provide a superbly effective partnership with
Google's creative innovators.
