I am currently a Software Engineering student at Nottingham Trent
University.
I am in my final year trying to implement a project.
I wanted to add Google SOAP search API as my development uses
web-services anyway so this was perfect to include for some extra
functionality.
After typing the start of my thesis, I have now found that Google have
stopped giving out the API keys so now it seems like I can't include
this in my thesis.
I have mailed them about it (as I was only two weeks late and would
have grabbed one if I had known!!), and they have told me to come on
these groups which does not seem very helpful of them as they seem like
a fantastic company and have always had a great deal of respect from
me.
I now have a problem.
I am already well under way with my thesis and really need to include
this SOAP API as I have already written about this. Where oh Where can
I obtain a SOAP search API key from or who can I speak to at Google
about it that would possibly give me one.
If it was not so important for my thesis I would not even request
advice here.
Any help would be VASTLY appreciated.

My development is in C# using Web-Services so the SOAP API is perfect
that is why I wrote it up into my thesis not realising that it would
disappear!!

Tell me about it!

I am in almost exactly the same boat. I planned to do a scientific
analysis based on Google(TM) search results, and when I finally found
time to sit down and get to it ... guess what? Its gone!!!
I would love to get an old key from somewhere, as this seems like an
excellent service. The AJAX replacement forces me to learn JS and
Ajax, and that adds time to my project, as my lingua franca is Perl.
Any dead developers out there who bequethed their API key in their
will?
The best solution I found was here,
A FOSS alternative to the Google SOAP API, sadly not as good, but what
can you do? Really? What can you do?
