I've been doing the voluntary work for the translation of Google
into Uyghur (aka Uighur) language Arabic script. The Uyghur language
IS Arabic scirpt-based language and the script is the ONLY LEGAL
script which is widely accepted and admitted by the China local
officials and the people living here (please refer to the entry from
Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uyghur). The translation work
of the UI into Latin script was done already by other guys perhaps due
to the lack of the Unicode support. Now it's the world of Unicode, we
think that the UI SHOULD and MUST be converted to Arabic script since
it'll be accessed by the majority of 10+ million Uyghur people who use
Arabic script as their ONLY script of communication.
The main problem here is that popular Unicode fonts, such as Arial,
Sans Serif, etc., are based on Unicode Standard 2.1. And Uyghur
Arabic script representation has issues still remaining unresolved
with this version of standard, causing the fonts present some of the
Uyghur Arabic script characters incorrectly. Even the most universal
font, Arial Unicode MS has the same problem. Therefore, we developed
a couple of Unicode-supported free, open-source fonts that fix the
issues, enabling those problematic characters display correctly.
Finally comes the question:
Can we use our home-made and publicly available, free, open-source
fonts on the UI of Google Main Search Site?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
I'm instrested in Uighur, but I don't know any of the language.
But this work is meaningful to Uighur people who live in the North
West of our country.
So I support your work!!!
I hope the new Arabic-script GUI will be launched soon!
