google gaming os

Seeing MS forcing people to update to Vista in order to take
advantage of DirectX 10 made me made think about an idea i've had
several times before, that being a stream lined gaming os for personal
computers. It wouldn't be an OS in the normal terms just the minium
processes for gaming.. think direct x or open gl and networking api's
just not rinnning under windows..a game would launch into this special
gameing os mode. I'd love to see google do something like this. I
wonder what the speed increase of games would be like if they only had
to load the minium resources. It also seems like it would be a very
clever way of taking some of that pc gaming market share away from MS
if it was done well..
