This isn't GWT-specific. I've only done it when running on App Engine, and there it should be fairly simple. The server-side code can ask the user to log in, get the email address, and then pass it to the browser.

Without App Engine, I think OAuth 2.0 is supposed to be the way to do it, but I have no experience with this:
