Error: The import xxx.yyy.client.utils.ProgramSettings cannot be resolved

I am having some interesting problems here with a class that refuses
to be recognized sometimes.

Now i say "sometimes" because it was working before.

The class is a static class, that has a number of helper methods for
my application as a whole; for example a central place to popup
windows, and display log output etc.

Everything compiles, but when i run i get in the GWT console I get
this:

I'll be damned if I can figure it out, because i am not using anything
that i shouldn't be.

To add a little more to this issue, if i "Compile/Browse" and view the
completed in IE7 or FF, then it works!

I just can't get it to work in the Hosted Mode. Is there a cache i
need to clear or something?

Plot thickens ... it works on another machine! in the words of the
wise man ... WTF?!

Resolved!

I have to completely delete all the files in the ".gwt-cache" folder.
There was obviously legacy files in there that wasn't being refreshed
even with a complete rebuild in Eclipse. I suspect this probably a
bug with GWT compiler.

Either way, manually deleting this directory will help.

I have the same problem sometimes, specially if I change my sourcecode
somewhere else and overwrite it in my development application.

If you're in eclipse, try to refresh the package / src folder.  The IDE sets up a virtual filesystem for your code, and some methods of GWT compile read from this filesystem and others use the actual filesystem.

When IDE builds do weird things, try an ant build.  The gwt 1.6 webapp creator makes the build.xml file, then just cd to build.xml directory, ant hosted {replace hosted for any build types you want to add later}.
