My slogan would be: make mail matter again.
Your @
gmail.com account will get company from a second account:
@
googlewave.com .
If I look at my main gmail account, it's a BIG collection of mails. A
few times I already hit the maximum amounts of quota with my gmail
account. It's impossible to read it all. Smart filtering makes it
manageable and fun again.
But still, an unexpected email (read: unfiltered) in your Inbox -
which never is empty - is easily missed if you take your mailing easy
for a week, something personal is easily missed (I had my Wave
invitation already before the crowd, only to find it out after te
crowd;).
By this fact, emailing has become less and less important for my
personal life. In 1995 we wrote complete letters via email, now only a
quick question at best. I started to use live messenger for one-on-one
contact, and an email only after we chatted about it. In places where
no chat software is available, I use my iGoogle page and it's gadgets.
The new @
googlewave.com account you receive, adds a new shell (layer)
above (besides?) emailing.
The main point of contact is an email to @
googlewave.com . You don't
use that address for news-letters, I'd imagine. I'm still testing if
only another @
googlewave.com user can email to it. I do not know yet.
Email does not bounce, but arriving... No, not yet anyway.
UPDATE: I think it works as follows... Your @
googlewave.com address is
only reachable by other googlewave users. For now, I will be using it
like a digital business card in my signature. Don't mail me, wave me ;
P
For now it looks more like a new way of communicating with people.
Based on email technology, with the speed and ono-on-one communication
of chat.
Furthermore, it adds true multimedia by gadgets (programs) that
probably will be able to do anything. Take a look at your iGoogle /
gmail gadgets, and you have an impression of where to start. All to be
used, in true Cloud spirituality, via a web interface (web-page)..
To put it more precise, you don't even use "emails" anymore. It looks
like email, but everything has turned into a gadget. Email being the
simplest one. But you could sent someone the gadget / email / menu-
opton (old-school) to adjust your options for, say, your google wave
account. All is gadget. All is flexible. Add group / user and ride the
wave.
For now, this is what is going to happen for me personally: I will
stay reading my email to learn and filter information or to receieve
first contacts with people I do not know yet.
If a real conversation / information exchange starts, you move over to
your @
googlewave.com account and really start to manage your
infomation. You can easily add people / groups to conversations and
they can see all the buzz.
I think I"m falling in love - now I only need people to join in :)
It's convenience already proves so massive, that I'm CERTAIN this
project will not fail. Usually Superior new things fail, but this is a
keeper. I'm falling in love, so to say. And I can hardly use it
yet... ; -)
Peace!
