How to add custom markers to a timeline chart

Hello,

The timeline chart fulfills 99% of my requirements for displaying resources in a time. The 1% missing is the ability to create custom markers on a given timeline resource. These markers represent additional information specific to a resource. An example is given in the attached screenshot, which represents a timeline created with another tool.

I would like to switch to the Google Charts timeline chart, but in order to achieve this, I have to be able to add the custom diamond markers on a given resource.

Any advice on how to achieve this would be greatly appreciated!

OK after looking a bit more into this, it seems I could achieve the expected effect using overlays:
