Validate GeoChart city or country data.

If I'm adding new data to my GeoChart on the fly, is there a way to validate a string as to whether or not it will render as a city or country? It doesn't seem to break if there's invalid data, but is there a way to detect and remove an invalid string? I don't see anything in events.
