Can anyone point me to code or the correct place to figure out how to use the google api, within php programming, to send in two zip codes and retrieve the distance between them? I want to use that data for a query and post a link to show the map with zip code to zip code distance view!

This can't be done with the Visualization API. You might have some luck with Google Maps, though.
