In the select handler, call the #getSelection method of your chart object to get the selection.  The #getSelection method returns an array of objects with row and/or column properties (depending on the visualization and what is selected - org charts return only rows, as I recall) which contain indices referencing the DataTable used to build the chart.  You can then use these indices to pull data out of the DataTable, like this: http://jsfiddle.net/asgallant/3baRY/

Instead of using the names for the links I'm using an ID from a database field. When Clicking on the icon I can make a alert box appear but I'm having problems extracting this ID back out of JavaScript and into my own JavaScript statement so.
